In a large mixing bowl, blend ground chuck, sour cream, ranch dressing mix, crumbled bacon, and shredded cheddar cheese until just combined. Avoid overmixing to maintain tenderness.

Divide the mixture evenly and form into 6 burger patties of uniform size and thickness. Press a slight dimple in the center of each to prevent doming during cooking. Wet hands with cold water if needed to reduce sticking.

Preheat grill, grill pan, or skillet to medium heat. Cook patties, flipping once, until internal temperature reaches desired level: 54-57°C for medium-rare, 60-63°C for medium, or 71°C for well-done. Do not press down on patties while cooking. Allow burgers to rest for a few minutes before assembling.

Toast hamburger buns if desired. Place cooked patties on buns and top with lettuce, tomato, mustard, mayonnaise, or other preferred condiments. Serve immediately.
