Cut the washed and scrubbed potatoes into quarters or chunks.

Place potato pieces in a large bowl and toss with olive oil or melted butter, salt, pepper, and any desired optional seasonings.

Transfer the seasoned potatoes to a large sheet of heavy-duty aluminum foil and wrap tightly to form a sealed packet.

Nestle the foil packet directly into the embers of an established campfire. Cook for 20–30 minutes, flipping occasionally, until the potatoes are tender when pierced.

Carefully remove the packet from the fire, allow it to cool slightly, then open the package. Serve the potatoes hot.
