Cream Pastry Squares (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 8 separated eggs.
02 - 1 1/4 cups plain flour.
03 - 4 cups of whole milk.
04 - 2 sheets of puff pastry, defrosted.
05 - 1 1/2 cups of white sugar.
06 - 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar (plus extra to sprinkle).
07 - 2 tablespoons of rum (optional).
08 - 2 cups of chilled heavy cream.
09 - 3 teaspoons of vanilla essence.

# Instructions:

01 - Turn on the oven to 350°F. Bake the thawed puff pastry sheets on trays for about 10 minutes or till they're golden. Let them cool.
02 - Heat 3 cups of milk in a pot. Mix egg yolks with sugar until they look pale and creamy, then stir in flour, vanilla, rum, and the leftover cup of milk.
03 - Combine the egg mixture with the hot milk and stir over heat till thick. Take off the stove.
04 - Whip the egg whites till they hold stiff peaks. Gently fold them into the custard mix.
05 - Place one puff pastry sheet into a dish and spread the prepared custard on top. Chill it for 1 to 2 hours.
06 - Spread a layer of whipped cream, then top it with pastry squares. Let it chill for another 2 hours.

# Notes:

01 - Chill everything for about 3 to 4 hours overall.
02 - Sprinkle powdered sugar before serving.
03 - Store in the fridge.
